Abstract

The collection contains 41 images and photographs dating from the late 1890s to the early 1900s belonging to the late Reverend John Porter (1856-1929). John Porter was a well known figure in Baltimore's African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and the father of prominent African American art historian James A. Porter (1905-1970). The AME Church features prominently in the collection images with the vast majority of the images depicting either churches or ministers. The collection also contains portraits of other identified and unidentified men, women, and children.
