The Washington Grit was a short-lived 19th-century newspaper in Washington, D.C., founded in 1883 by editor and proprietor John Edward Bruce. It advocated Republican principles and took strong editorial positions in support of political reforms of the era. One of several publications led by its founder, the Grit reflected active civic engagement in post-Reconstruction politics.
