Subcategory: Education - Universities and Colleges; Dr. Jason graduated cum laude from the Howard University College of Medicine in 1928 and received a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1932; he was the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in Pathology. Dr. Jason was a professor and head of the Department of Pathology at Howard before becoming dean in 1955 (the first alumnus to hold this position). Dr. Jason, who coordinated the development of the Howard University Hospital and Medical Center, became Dean Emeritus in 1965 and Professor Emeritus five years later.
