The Mississippi Odd Fellow was a weekly newspaper. It most likely started in 1908 in Holly Springs, Mississippi, which is the birthplace of prominent journalist Ida B. Wells. Wells led an anti-lynching crusade through the United States in the 1890s. Currently, the oldest continuously published Black-owned and operated newspaper in America is the Jackson Advocate. Their motto and mission were to serve as "The Voice of Black Mississippians". The Jackson Advocate was founded in 1938 by Percy Green; he served as the publisher until his death in 1977. He was also a founding member of the Negro Newspaper Publishers Association, now known as the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).
