Abstract:
With the increasing awareness and number of gender diverse individuals in the United States, in combination with the current political climate, leads to historic and continuing medical discrimination through refusal of care, lack of education, or legal barriers to care. With occupational therapy’s emphasis on holistic care, it is important to improve the educational content for gender diverse individuals’ care for occupational therapists to apply knowledge to their care. This capstone looks at the intersectionality between gender-diverse individuals and physical disabilities and aims to educate occupational therapists on how gender-diverse individuals approach basic activities of daily living and how they manage dysphoria so that occupational therapists can incorporate gender-diverse care into practice within the context of physical disability care.
