Abstract
Joseph E. Mitchell (1876-1952) was the cofounder and publisher of the St. Louis Argus. Mitchell was also a prominent member of the Negro Newspaper Publishers Association and served as a member of the Missouri State Board of Education. The Joseph E. Mitchell Papers contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, photos, programs and various other materials related to his life and work. Most of the papers span the years 1920-1953 and the papers total 0.25 cubic feet.
