The Denver Star, formerly known as The Statesman and The Independent, was founded in 1888 and published in Denver. It was a weekly publication that reported on local, society, and church news. Joseph D.D. Rivers was one of the editors of The Stateman/The Denver Star. Rivers was also a former student of Booker T. Washington and the first Black person admitted into the Colorado Bar. He was the publisher for nearly forty years.
