Abstract

The purpose of this paper is briefly to summarize the development of dentistry, dental education and the factors and forces which interplay related to the dental health of the public in the United States of America. There is special focus on the developments of the last decade since they represent current and future directions. Finally, some observations and recommendations are made related to dentistry and the development of the dental public health system in Finland.
