Founded in 1914 by Ormond A. Forte, the Cleveland Advocate gave voice to Black Cleveland during World War I and the Great Migration. From championing civil rights to spotlighting Black soldiers through Ralph W. Tyler's groundbreaking war correspondence, the paper documented a community demanding equality at home and abroad.
