Abstract

Collection: 251 Inclusive Dates: 1950 - 2004 Extent: 171.25 Cubic Feet Elias Blake Jr. was a president of Clark College and Howard University, and a legal scholar and lifelong advocate for African-Americans in higher education. Among his papers are legal files, supreme court decisions, legal correspondence, files from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, research files on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, educational reports, clippings, articles, and books on education. Of note are Blakes files on the Ayers v. Fordice case, which forced Mississippi to find ways to further desegregate the university system in the state.
