First official Photos of Negro Marines The ranks of America's oldest fighting force, the U.S. Marines Corps, have been opened to the nation's Negroes, which are being trained to carry on the Marine traditions of 167 years. One unit has already been assigned to overseas duty. Others are completing their training in artillery, anti-aircraft, communications, and the varied duties which these sea-going Negro soldiers will soon be called upon to perform. Their basic training includes the same programs practiced by all Marines. Negro U.S. Marine recruits on the firing line during their basic training period at Camp Lejeune, New River, N.C.. Three weeks at the Rifle Range is spent in firearms instruction, climaxed by "Record Day" to test their marksmanship
